Whats New!

New Central Avenue Location!

Mohawk Ambulance Service is pleased to announce the opening of its newest location at
570 Central Avenue in Albany, New York. Built brand new from the ground up, the building boasts a 6 bay ambulance garage and crews quarters on the first floor and a large training center on the second floor.

The new location is in addition to Mohawk’s current Albany location on Quail Street and will allow Mohawk Ambulance to better serve its customers in a very busy operating theater and also house our growing fleet.

The training center will allow the provision of a multitude of courses including AHA CPR, PALS and ACLS which will be available to the public.

Mohawk Ambulance Service is honored to have the opportunity to help students achieve success and give back to the community!

Mohawk Ambulance Service is working in conjunction with Northeast Parent and Child Society and Schenectady County Community College on an amazing, cutting edge program. Utilizing grant funds provided by Walmart Corporation, the program is designed to allow participants to obtain their GED and also their EMT certification.

The goal of this program is to take young adults that have not been able to successfully complete their high school education and help them obtain their GED provide them with job skills, training and employment. One of the career paths that they have chosen is EMS.

Program candidates go through a rigorous screening process to determine if they are truly interested in a career in EMS and also to determine if their commitment and motivation level is high enough to allow them to achieve their goal. The focus of this program is success. In addition to attending courses 2 days a week for their GED education and EMT class 2 days a week, the students will spend one day a week interning with a Mohawk Ambulance Service crew. This will provide them with significantly more ride time than the average EMT student and will give them a forum to observe and practice the skills that they are learning in class.

Once the students obtain their GED and NYS EMT certification, they will become employees of Mohawk Ambulance Service.

Mohawk Ambulance Service is very excited to be in on the ground floor of such an innovative program and we hope to see it continue and expand in the future. The students began their EMT program on July 30, 2008 and will be taking the NYS written examination in December. We are very proud of these students and the efforts that they have put forth to achieve a very worthwhile goal.
